A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A HDDO or HDDL
As a Horizontal Directional Drill Operator or Locator, you are the driving force behind our success. To our customers, you are the face of our company and always make sure to represent the high standards we strive to achieve as a company. You set up safety barriers and signage, site set up and complete scheduled drills. Your ability to read complex prints and follow safety procedures will be key. With careful attention to detail, you will restore disturbed areas, maintain a bore schedule, and cleanup sites.
Responsibilities:
• Safely operates drill equipment on job site which may include but not limited to the following: Directional Drill, Backhoe / Excavator, Skid Steer, Tractor Trailer (Moving Equipment / Haul Water), Vacuum Truck/Trailer
• Restores and/or landscapes disturbed areas of the jobsite
• Will develop and maintain a bore schedule
• Responsible for the site set-up and clean-up
• Load and unload tools, materials, and equipment on truck
• Will be involved in new site Job Safety Analysis – JSA prior to starting construction
• Setting up safety perimeter using signage, cones, and safety barriers and at times flagging traffic
• May be required to work overtime; after hours; on weekends, for emergencies or be on-call as work is needed to ensure work is completed
• Ability to follow instructions
Qualifications:
• Must be experienced with drilling equipment and understand their capabilities and limitations
• Experience with drill set up and design processes
• Basic ability to use small tools/hand tools
• Ability to read and understand work orders, safety rules and operating instructions
• Must be able to proficiently use locators to safely identify utilities
• Must have good troubleshooting and critical thinking skills
• Must be very safety conscientious
• Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s license with tanker endorsement
• Must be willing to travel
• Previous construction experience or utility construction experienced
• Minimum (3) years of operating various types of heavy equipment is preferred. Heavy equipment is defined as: Backhoes, Excavators, Loaders and Skid Steers.
• Minimum (3) years of operating or locating on various types of horizontal directional drilling equipment; Ditch Witch, Vermeer, American Auger is required.
• Must be knowledgeable drilling in various soil conditions and mixing drill mud.
